Dubrovnik

This was booked on a spur of the moment and wasn’t fully considered! Croatia is not known for its wheelchair accessibility but I thought I would give it a go as I like a challenge.

This walled city is more famous for Game of Thrones than anything else but it looked pretty and it seemed to be a combination of both beach holiday and a city break which is the sort of thing I like doing.

Seville

To mark 10 years of being in a wheelchair, I decided to celebrate with my sister and go on a long weekend to Seville in September.
Amazing city with relatively good wheelchair access and most importantly amazing Tapas!

Scuba diving

Prior to my injury, I had qualified as an Advanced Open Water Diver through PADI. At the time of my accident I thought my diving days were over as I couldn't imagine how it would be possible to dive as a tetraplegic with only the limited use of one arm.

Madeira

I travelled with a friend who is also a wheelchair user (paraplegic) and some of his family as well as to my own carers. We chose Madeira as it seemed to have a mixture of relaxation as well as some things to do and explore. More specifically we stayed near Funchal which is the capital. It's a beautiful island and although quite mountainous was quite accessible.

Bilbao, Spain

I was invited to a friends wedding in Bilbao and made a weekend of the trip as I'd heard the food there was amazing. I travelled with two carers and partied hard at the wedding as well as exploring the city a little. There were a few complications on the plane which added to the experience.

Vancouver

After one week in Seattle, we moved on to Vancouver. We spent five nights here and explored the city and surrounding areas. Vancouver is awesome and I would definitely recommend it, it was relatively easy getting around in my wheelchair but again there was some planning involved.

Seattle

Seatlle skyline

I decided to arrange a trip to visit my aunt and uncle who live in Seattle. This later developed into a two-week trip to include Vancouver. I was pleasantly surprised at how accessible both Seattle and Vancouver are compared to other places I visited.there was however, a huge amount of planning and a lot of help from my family.
